ANSCHUTZ FAMILY

Ceci was in first grade when she complained to her parents of pain in her side. Over the next few days, Ceci and her family learned she had a malignant tumor called a Wilms tumor, about the size of a pineapple, growing on her left kidney.

Their lives soon became tied to the hospital. Initially, Ceci’s mother, Alissa, was granted unpaid, job-protected leave through FMLA, but when it came to an end, she quit her job to be at Ceci’s side full time. Ceci’s courageous battle has included surgery to remove the tumor, rounds of radiation treatments, and chemotherapy. Through it all, Ceci’s remained fierce and maintained her shining personality that warms each room she walks into.

A neighbor first connected Ceci and her family with Children’s Cancer Family Foundation. They found support and strength among similar families battling pediatric cancer through events like Strike Out Cancer Day. CCFF’s financial granting program also helped them pay off the growing number of medical bills.
